TOUCHING LIVES, WORKING HARD AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Ever get the feeling that as you walk on life's beach the waves are wiping out your tracks?  Most of us aren't out to get prominence...but we'd like to know that when the final tally is made...we have helped make the world a better place.  And that's what our motto is all about: What is a man who doesn't make his world a better place!? In 2009 we suggest a 5-7 Week period in late summer or early fall.  Discuss it at your meetings.

Let me tell you about Ruby.  Here is an older lady who insists on staying in here home, despite being well into her nineties.  When a team of Buddies offered to focus their 7 Weeks Of Compassion on Ruby she resisted at first.  The team lovingly proceeded to explain that there would be no intrusion of her privacy.  Buddies would only tackle projects she approved.  So the work began.  The entire group visited her home and made copious notes in an effort to match needs with skills and time available.  The wooden steps would need to be reinforced.  Windows could stand a good washing.  Shrubbery would require serious pruning.  One lady Buddy volunteered to clean every dish in the kitchen, wash out the cupboards and install new shelf paper.  Just imagine the significant amount of change that will come to this dear lady's home as a result of love in action.  Some groups are big on talk but weak on walk.  Buddy Time is about talk that leads to real, earnest, sweaty-forehead work.

Some groups talk of paying for all materials, while others allow the home owner to buy such things as paint and weed-killer.

OTHER COMPASSION PROJECTS

  1. Tend vegetation at the local library or public school
  2. One group mows lawns for senior adults all summer
  3. Paint projects...fences, homes and foster homes
  4. Plant a garden with produce being donated to food banks
  5. Clean up the yard of a single mom or a senior

                             RENDEZVOUS IN PERU

Yikes!  The 2009 Rendezvous is upon us...July 10-18.  Folk will be converging on Trujillo, Peru, to provide all sorts of compassionate service.  A dental clinic for kids...construction projects...plenty of 'working like a burro'.  We'll have pictures posted of this big event shortly after our return from South America.

Now is a good time to be thinking of getting linked up with the next Rendezvous in Peru.  We meet in Lima, Peru, and then head north to Trujillo, the city of Eternal Spring.  There we work on construction, community projects, dental clinics for kids and other significant projects.

Perhaps on member of your BuddyTime group desire to participation in this international Compassion Campaign.  The rest of your team could help raise the funds to make it happen? Watch for details of the next trek to the south.
